Preparation is separate from the live Season 2 route

This is a preparation guide, not the launch-week gearing route. Creator observations and PTR estimates are labeled; regional resets can occur one day later.

Patch 12.1 Preparation Steps

Complete the useful actions and intentionally skip the optional ones. Progress stays in this browser.

  1. 1

Clear the available Curse of Ula’tek introduction

    Do nowBefore August 11
Complete the current introductory campaign quests shown in your log so your intended main and alts are ready to continue the story on patch day.

Why it helps: Clearing available story setup removes avoidable launch-day friction before the Coiled Isle opens.

    Verification & sourcesOfficial references

Blizzard confirms that the Midnight campaign continues in Patch 12.1, but does not call the pre-patch chapter a mandatory account unlock.

  2. 2

Advance the Omnium Folio where it helps now

    Optional edgeNow only if useful
Finish the Folio introduction on one character if you have not already. Advance it on alts you will play before August 11, but let other alts wait for the account-wide introduction skip announced for Patch 12.1.

Why it helps: Folio powers remain useful in Season 2, while waiting avoids repeating an introduction that the next patch is designed to skip.

    Verification & sourcesOfficial references

On live Patch 12.0.7, each alt still needs the Sunstrider Omnium unlock questline. Blizzard’s July 31 Patch 12.1 note says the introduction can be skipped account-wide once one character has completed it.

  3. 3

Finish only the Season 1 rewards you still want

    Before resetFinal Season 1 reset
Close a realistic raid, Mythic+, PvP, or Delve goal that is already within reach. Skip prestige pushes that would require an unhealthy last-minute grind.

Why it helps: Ahead of the Curve, Cutting Edge, seasonal titles, mounts, appearances, and several PvP and Delve rewards become unavailable or harder to obtain.

    Verification & sourcesOfficial references

The reward list is official. Cutoff-score forecasts discussed by creators are estimates, not guaranteed thresholds.

  4. 4

    Spend confirmed expiring resources—not everything

    Before resetBefore Season 2
Use Season 1 Nebulous Voidcores for a final goal because they convert to gold. Spend crests, Catalyst charges, keys, or badges only when they buy a reward you actually want.

Why it helps: A targeted spend can finish a set, transmog, mount, or achievement; a panic dump wastes currencies that may persist.

    Verification & sourcesOfficial references

Blizzard confirms the Voidcore conversion. Resets for Undercoin, Relic Coffer Keys, and Voidlight Marl were not confirmed in the primary sources reviewed, so do not assume they disappear.

  5. 5

Use Turbulent Timeways to level unfinished alts

    Do nowEvent ends August 11
Level any character you genuinely want for Season 2, build the event XP buff, and spend Timewarped Badges only on rewards you care about.

Why it helps: The event is a time-limited shortcut to level 90 and removes the only hard requirement from AltGearer’s live gearing routes.

    Verification & sourcesOfficial references

Blizzard confirms Turbulent Timeways runs through August 11. Queue speed and total leveling time still vary by role and route.

  6. 6

Train Valeera only if you plan to push Delves early

Optional edgeOnly for an early Delve push
Run efficient Delves now if a stronger companion would materially help your first Season 2 upper-tier or Nemesis attempts. Otherwise, skip the grind.

Why it helps: A higher companion level can make the opening Delve push easier, which is why multiple creator guides treat Valeera as optional prep.

    Verification & sourcesOfficial references

Blizzard confirms new Bountiful and upper-tier Delves with Season 2. The claimed companion carryover and early title window were not confirmed in the primary sources reviewed.

  7. 7

Stop overgearing alts for content that is about to reset

    Stop overfarmingNow
Reach a comfortable entry floor for the content you plan to run, take only easy upgrades that solve a real weak slot, then stop. Self-made groups and friends usually let you start lower than public groups.

Why it helps: Patch-week Mythic 0 drops item level 292 gear, and the seasonal item-level jump will replace most catch-up farming quickly.

    Verification & sourcesOfficial references

The 292 Mythic 0 reward is official: it uses a weekly reset from August 11, then a daily reset from August 18. Creator advice ranges from a minimal 250–255 entry target to optimized 298 and crafted upgrades; neither is a fixed Blizzard requirement.

  8. 8

    Prepare professions and durable consumables

    Optional edgeDuring downtime
Finish useful profession unlocks and knowledge, then buy modest quantities of food, flasks, offensive potions, oils, or sharpening stones if prices are reasonable.

Why it helps: These jobs are easier before patch-day demand, but speculative material flipping is optional and risky.

    Verification & sourcesOfficial references

Buy only what you expect to use. New recipes and demand can move prices quickly, and every market forecast remains speculative.

  9. 9

    Update and test your interface

    Do nowBefore your first group
Clear bag space and abandoned quests, update essential addons, clean up obsolete alerts, and test the current native Cooldown Manager. After Patch 12.1 launches, configure its new potion, trinket, glow, sound, text-to-speech, ping, and raid-frame options.

Why it helps: A tested UI prevents patch-day troubleshooting and makes new encounters easier to read immediately.

    Verification & sourcesOfficial references

The base Cooldown Manager is live now. Blizzard identifies potion and trinket tracking, ping changes, and healer raid-frame options as Patch 12.1 updates, so those additions cannot be configured before August 11.

Source validation

What Blizzard confirms—and what needs context

AltGearer cross-checked the practical advice across 4 creator videos. These are the material corrections and uncertainty labels added after comparing them with Blizzard’s sources.

Confirmed

Patch week and Season 2 week unlock different rewards

From the August 11 reset, Heroic and Mythic 0 dungeons, all non-Bountiful Season 2 Delve tiers, Normal and Hard Prey, and Arena Training Grounds are available. Season 2 Great Vault credit from eligible activities also begins that week. On August 18, the raid, Mythic+, PvP Season 2, Bountiful Delves and keys open, and the first Season 2 Great Vault gear becomes claimable.

Correction

Not every Season 1 currency has a confirmed reset

Nebulous Voidcores are confirmed to convert to gold. The transcript’s broader resource warning is useful, but unconfirmed currencies should not be panic-spent.

Creator / PTR

Gear and Delve thresholds are planning advice

Creator guidance ranges from a minimal 250–255 entry target to an optimized 298 or crafted route, showing that there is no single required pre-patch item level. Valeera carryover and early Nemesis timing also remain creator or PTR guidance, not fixed requirements.

Patch 12.1 preparation FAQ

When does WoW Patch 12.1 launch?

Blizzard has announced August 11, 2026 for Patch 12.1: Curse of Ula’tek. Midnight Season 2 begins August 18, 2026. Regional reset calendars can differ by one day.

What can I do during the week between Patch 12.1 and Season 2?

Starting the week of August 11, Heroic and weekly-reset Mythic 0 dungeons, all non-Bountiful Season 2 Delve tiers, Normal and Hard Prey, and Arena Training Grounds are available. Season 2 Great Vault credit from eligible activities also starts that week, but the first Season 2 Vault gear is not claimable until August 18, when the raid, Mythic+, PvP Season 2, Bountiful Delves, and keys also open.

What should I finish before Midnight Season 1 ends?

Prioritize a Season 1 raid, Mythic+, PvP, or Delve reward only when it is already within reach. Finish the Omnium Folio setup on one character and level planned alts, but do not start a large gear grind with no lasting reward.

Which Season 1 currencies reset in Season 2?

Blizzard confirms that unused Season 1 Nebulous convert to gold. Do not assume Undercoin, Relic Coffer Keys, or Voidlight disappear unless Blizzard adds an explicit conversion note.

Is the Omnium Folio fully account-wide?

On live Patch 12.0.7, each alt still needs the Sunstrider Omnium unlock questline. Blizzard’s Patch 12.1 notes add an account-wide introduction skip once one character has completed it, so alts that do not need the Folio before August 11 can wait.

Should I gear my alts before Patch 12.1?

Only enough to enter the content you plan to run. There is no fixed pre-patch item-level requirement: self-made groups and friends can start lower than public groups, while optimized players may target easy 298 or crafted upgrades. Patch-week Mythic 0 is scheduled to drop item level 292 gear starting August 11.

Will Valeera’s Delve level carry into Season 2?

Creator PTR testing reports that it will, but AltGearer did not find a primary Blizzard source confirming that carryover. Treat Valeera leveling as an optional early-Delve advantage, not a required chore.

Choose the alt you actually want to play

Compare every specialization for Raid, Mythic+, Arena, and Solo Shuffle, then return to the live gearing route only if your chosen character needs it.
